What needs to be done before this website can be published

  1. Decide which books go on the website
    • Jocelyn decides and tells Keith.
    • Keith adds dummy pages to the website for each book.
  2. Get the definitive text for the book. They are currently stored on Jocelyn's iMac under Desktop/Book_master_copies. All the information for a single book is in its own folder under Book_master_copies.
All information for a book MUST be in its own per book folder under Book_master_copies. Do NOT store information for a book anywhere else.
  3. Jocelyn makes required changes to the definitive text on her iMac.
NOTE: Only update the master copy of the book in Desktop/Book_master_copies/<book folder>. Having multiple versions floating around gets very confusing.
  4. Add ISBN if necessary.
    • Keith takes care of this and updates the book.
  5. Proofread the book if necessary.
    • Jocelyn and Keith proofread the book, taking it in turns to work on a book.
It is VERY important that only one person updates a book at a time.
  6. Every book on the website needs:
    1. A full sized cover image.
      • Jocelyn decides on the image and stores it in the per book folder then tells Keith.
    2. A small cover image.
      • Keith creates this from the full sized image.
      • Keith adds the small image to the website on the main index page and the per book page on the website.
    3. A blurb and some extracts for the website.
      • Jocelyn writes the blurb and extracts and tells Keith.
Each book folder under Book_master_copies has a text file called blurb-extracts.txt. Jocelyn needs to edit these files to suit the book. Most blurbs and extracts have been preloaded from the old website, but they still need to be verified.

NOTE: Do NOT change the lines that end in ':'. They must stay exactly as they are so the program that generates the website site knows how to read the blurb-extract files.

        • blurb-extracts.txt consists of 2 sections, website and book.
        • Both website and book sections have a subsection called Blurb. The website also has a Shortblurb section.
The book blurb goes on the back cover of the book, Keith does that.
The website blurb goes on the website page that is dedicated to that book.
There is also a blurb on the index page of the website, the page that lists all the books. The index blurb is taken from one of these locations, in this order (first one that is filled in is used):
          1. Website shortblurb
          2. Book blurb
          3. Website blurb
        • Both website and book sections have a subsection called Extracts, containing one or more extracts. A single extract consists of one or more lines. Put a blank line between each extract. If the book extracts subsection is blank then the book will have the same extracts as the website.
        • The book section has a subsection called Author. This should be a single paragraph to go alongside the author picture, saying why the author wrote the book.
          • Keith adds the blurb and extracts to the per book page on the website.
  7. When the text and ISBN and covers and blurb and extracts have all been done, the book can be uploaded to Amazon so people can buy it on their ereader.
    • Keith takes care of formatting the text and cover for Amazon and uploading it.
  8. When the book is on Amazon, add a "buy here" link to the website for the book.
    • Keith does this.
  9. When all the books in the website have no outstanding requirements, publish the website.
    • Keith does this.
  10. If you want to publish the book as a paperback, the book needs even more data.
    • The front cover needs a picture. This will come from the full sized cover image in the per book folder.
    • Back cover stuff.
The back cover needs an author head shot, a short description of why the author wrote the book, a blurb and some extracts. Jocelyn needs to fill in the author part the blurb-extracts.txt file to say why the book was written.
    • Keith uses the book information and the master copy of the text to create the book.
    • Keith updates the website with the paperback format.
